Our program strives to:

Gain an understanding of an individual's challenging behavior and develop a program which effectively treats it. Individuals are typically referred after repeated unsuccessful attempts at resolving such problems as aggression, self-injury and property destruction. Thus, a primary goal of placement is to gain an understanding of the reasons why problems are continuing, and to develop a comprehensive approach which effectively addresses these problems.
Demonstrate that the individual will respond favorably to appropriately designed services and supports. By the time individuals are referred to AdvoServ, it is often believed that their needs defy any available services or technology. Thus, one goal of placement is to confirm that the individual's behavior will respond positively if the right therapeutic methods and arrangements can be found.
Facilitate the development of functional skills. For many individuals whose placements have been principally determined by their behavior problems, other areas of their lives are often neglected and remain arrested. A main goal of placement is thus to accelerate the development of skills in all domains, to reinstate enjoyable and constructive activities, and to expand the individual's ability to deal with more naturalized environments without reverting to problematic behavior.
Create an opportunity to rationally plan the next steps in serving the individual. It is very difficult to develop a reasonable plan for an individual whose current circumstances are placing significant stress on existing supports. The period in which an individual is served in AdvoServ's program should afford the time to plan, design and implement the next arrangement in a careful manner, based in large part on data and information derived while the individual is served at Advoserv.
Identify the level of support and the type of program needed to maintain improvement and to promote continued development. During placement at AdvoServ, it is possible to begin the process of behavior change, but continued improvement typically rests on long-term support strategies. Advoserv's goal is to render a realistic and effective formula for continuing improvement, to help prepare the person for eventual return to reductions in contrived supports and costly living arrangements.
